CHARACTER
Character Name: Elrond
Character Age: Over 5,000; appears to be in his 30s
Canon: Tolkien's Lord of the Rings
Canon Point: After the beginning of the Fourth Age
History: Tolkien Gateway
Elrond is an elf that's lived through chaos, death, war, grief, and splashes of intense joy and love. His birth place was ransacked when he was eight, he and his twin brother were two of the few who survived, were taken in and raised by two of the very elves who destroyed the city. He was raised with love, and later freed along with his brother. They were quickly in the midst of another war, this time as key participants. Surviving that war, they were given the choice between mortality, or immortality per their heritage. Elrond chose to remain immortal, while his brother chose mortality. They split, Elrond staying with Gil-galad and continued learning all he could and Elros went to become a king.

Eventually he met his future wife Celebrian, though he didn't admit his feelings until a good thousand years later, after another war and after he'd founded a settlement to protect and defend Middle-Earth from evil. But after living through that second war, in which Sauron was defeated for a time and his best friend and another close friend (among countless others) died, he admitted to himself and to her his love. They married and had three children while fostering his brother's descendants.

Then tragedy struck again, and his wife was ambushed and wounded passed where she could be healed despite healers' efforts on Middle-Earth. He and her parents decided to make the difficult choice to have her sail west, to the Undying Lands and to her grandparents and the Valar, in the hopes that she would then be healed.

Life went on, and eventually dwarves, a hobbit, and a wizard showed up in Rivendell. He welcomed them and showed them the hospitality his home had the rightful reputation of offering to travelers. A council was convened after Elrond was asked to translate a map, and a morgul blade was revealed to show Elrond was wrong, how the peace was weakening and that action was needed.

He helped in pushing Sauron back for a time, then went on to council the Fellowship in what they needed to do to get rid of Sauron once and for all. Soon after, his daughter married and Elrond sailed West to Valinor to be reunited with Celebrian.

Personality:
Elrond is generally welcoming to all who visit his valley, giving proper hospitality unless grievously insulted. If he can give advice, he will, as he is considered among the wisest of elves East of the Sea. He is exceptionally giving and caring, though generally only as far as keeping his kin and those he looks after safe.

Elrond has a sense of humor, as well, rather enjoying playing harmless tricks on some guests where he might not so much with others. This playful aspect of Elrond extends to earnest goodwill to the point where he does not take insult easily - especially when he is well aware of insult being unintentional.

He is very much a father figure, extending beyond his own three children. He loves his family and his people dearly. His wife, Celebrian's departure due to being unable to endure after unspeakable torture struck a sharp blow, but Elrond remained behind to hold his place in Middle-Earth as one of the few remaining protectors against the Darkness. Always left behind, until the very end, but it never affected how he acted towards those around him.

Elrond is exceptionally courageous, strong, and resilient. He fought in the Last Alliance and survived despite all odds. Unfortunately due to the events after that battle, Elrond is wary of just how strong that mortal race of Men became, and became reluctant to help as it may harm his kin when their strength was already waning. He knew well how the Age of the Elves was ending, giving rise to the Age of Men. There was little he felt he could do that he had not already done.

Elrond is exceptionally strong, both as a warrior, a leader, and a Healer. Despite everything he has lived through, he does not allow the tragedies to define him - instead, they strengthened him and allow him to keep going through everything life throws at him.

Despite his age, Elrond moves like a young man in the prime of life. He is always moving, though generally subtle movements when he's in a meeting, and only utterly still when deep in thought or concentrating on something. He shows respect to his elders (what few there are) also by subtle gestures, even if he might have a slight smirk to show he is amused by something he expects to happen.

Inventory: An elven sword and its sheath, small dagger, his robes, and ring of power.
Abilities:
Warrior- though he used to be among the best warriors and swordsmasters, he mostly gave it up in favor of healing. He can still wield a sword to devastating effect if needed

Healer- skilled in healing and herb lore, he is known as one of the best healers left in Middle-Earth. His Elven Ring of Power, Vilya, is used to heighten his healing abilities

*Vilya- one of the three Elvish Rings of Power, is used to heal and preserve, but can also wield minor control over elements. Elrond uses it to augment his natural healing talents, but also to manipulate water and charm the Valley into being so protected and sheltered.

Leader

Wise

Loremaster- one of the last left in Middle-Earth

Incorruptible- even against Sauron

Resistant to wounds and poisons

Immortal aside from being killed or wounded spirit

Heightened senses and strength

Meditate rather than sleep

Exceptional horse rider and swordsman

Fair tracker

Can understand animals, plants, rocks to a small degree (more in terms of emotions than words)

Well-versed in languages of Arda, both spoken and written, can read even Moon Runes

Far-Sight- he can see possible futures [For game purposes this is nixed]

Music- he can sing and is fond of playing the harp

Asgard-given abilities: (Taken directly from the game's info page)* For Hadriel game purposes, these have been disconnected.
Fire- 'dominion over fire. Larger amounts of flame can be created without fuel, though keeping a large flame still and in shape would take a lot of energy. Fireballs and blasts are more powerful, and large flames can be directed and controlled (creating a wall of fire and moving it like a free-flowing line is possible, for example). Very small flames can be used with laser-point accuracy, allowing for the use of fire to cauterize wounds, remove parasites, etc.'

Ice- 'complete control over ice. Inanimate or living objects can be frozen solid with a touch, and ice can be created from nothing shaped as desired. Weapons (particularly bladed ones) can be made from ice, in which case the ice will be less brittle than normal, much more like strong glass or even obsidian.'

Flaws: While Elrond is generally considered one of the wisest and purest of the Eldar East of the Sea (aka in Middle-Earth), he's also half-human, though he chose to take the immortal lifespan of elves. And as such, he can get angry, he can get frustrated, and he can lash out. And while he's learned to curb such impulses, sometimes they slip out in how he handles situations, especially when his advice is blatantly ignored. He takes his ire out through yelling, mostly, even at those he cares for. He yelled at Isildur, a dear friend, to destroy the One Ring, and he's snipped at Gandalf for speaking in Black Speech in Rivendell, where no one had ever spoken it there before.

CR AU
Previous Game and Time: Between [community profile] asgardeventide, it's reunion a year later, and [community profile] rubycity_rp, he was in play for about a year and a half to two years; between December 2014 and May 2017.
Previous Development:
Asgard:
He didn’t quite reach the shores before he was whisked off to a place called Asgard, where he met a number of people he’d never have expected. There he learned about other worlds, learned to function as a mortal with budding ice powers and helped fight and save that world before he was returned to Arda to finally meet Celebrian again. He was reunited with one of his foster fathers, Maglor, who had adopted a couple other mortals in Asgard and a sister, whom Elrond accepted as his aunt (even though Riley was far younger than even his own foster son).

Time passed in Valinor and he was returned to Asgard for a celebration of sorts, where he was reunited with the god that had protected him before and gave him his ice powers, and his aunt and foster father (among several others from Arda who'd been brought in with him). This time the powers were increased and added to so he had the mastery over fire and ice. Asgard had become a peaceful place and there was no need to fight.

Ruby City:
Instead of being sent home to his wife after Asgard's reunion celebration, he was sent to another city, in the midst of a more subtle type of battle than the open war and various sides of Asgard. He was reunited with his wife, and several others that were unexpected and welcome (Galadriel, Maedhros, Thranduil, Aragorn, Finrod, Fingon, Glorfindel, Erestor...) and grew fond of a human woman, Sansa Stark, whom Maedhros had all but adopted.
